Homeschool Kindergarten (Ages 5-6)

(Full Day & Half Day)

Our kindergarten focuses on achieving 1st-grade readiness through a nature-based curriculum. By utilizing nature as our classroom and natural elements as our materials, we will focus on all the components to prepare your child for 1st grade, while giving them an unforgettable, one-of-a-kind, outdoor learning experience. Led by a certified kindergarten teacher, children can join our class on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Materials are sent home for T/Th learning with parents.

Our kindergarten program will allow us to take your child's interests and turn them into meaningful, developmentally appropriate learning experiences to teach and enhance reading and language skills, math skills, writing skills, and science concepts, as well as allow for creative time in the form of art, music, and movement. In addition to our outdoor explorations and academic goals, we lay the foundation for a love of learning through outdoor experiences that encourage a child's physical, mental and social growth.

What makes us unique?

  • Mostly Outdoors - We spend most of our class time outdoors, unless there is severe weather. This means we get dirty and even play in the rain! We love exploring in the woods and at the creek and learning about the beautiful place where we live. We have a barn classroom with a screened in porch and many outdoor learning spaces as well.

  • Small Class Size We keep our class size small (15 students), which means individual attention and care to each child's needs.

  • Nature-based Curriculum  - Our nature-based curriculum incorporates a hands-on, experiential approach to supporting the development of the whole-child. We follow Alabama State Kindergarten Academic Standards, so the children learn the same things that they do in traditional kindergarten. We get the best of both worlds by learning outside!

  • Flexible, Child-led Nature Exploration - Our nature exploration is focused on our local environment and the plants and animals that live here.

  • Highly-trained Staff that love what they do - We hire the highest quality teachers in the area because we know who is with your child is incredibly important. Our teachers are well-trained, trustworthy, and experienced caregivers who love the work that they do. We provide ongoing staff development and opportunities for continuing education.

  • Room for Creative Play - We believe that children are meant to play and use their imaginations. That is what makes childhood special. Our staff see themselves as facilitators of the children's experience, holding the space for them to explore, learn, and play in the outdoors.

  • Physical Activity - We run, jump, slide, balance, and climb all throughout the day. Nature is the best playground! Children develop their physical capabilities and learn to be resilient in our classes. If the children need rest, we certainly make space for that to happen as well. Whatever the child's energy level, we work with it.

What are we learning?

Our kindergarten program incorporates age-appropriate academics using nature as our classroom. Our teaching methods are inspired by a wide variety of teachers and ideologies. We have an inquiry-based facilitation style, and we follow the children's interests when we build curriculum. We have a consistent schedule, but we are willing to be flexible if a unique learning opportunity arises.

Our curriculum is uniquely crafted using the following resources:
